Finding Your Center in the Midst of Crisis

In some of the more difficult times of our life nothing seems to work. It may feel as if everything is coming apart around us and we feel as if we have no control over what’s taking place in our lives.

Fighting or resisting the difficult realities of our lives intensifies the pain that we’re going through. We contract around the pain when we resist what’s happening, which causes us to get stuck in some really painful emotional spaces. We become all jammed up inside. That closes us off to the force of creation and we become stuck in our lives.

When you find yourself in a time of crisis, stop for a moment and bring the situation affecting you into your awareness. To do this, close your eyes and begin to pay attention to the feelings that are present in your body. Are there feelings of confusion, anxiety or fear? Do you feel overwhelmed or out of out of control?

Allow yourself to completely let go into any anxiety, fear, insecurity, pain or any other feelings that you experience. Breathe very softly and deeply as you place your attention in the middle of the feelings. Instead of fighting you might say to yourself "whatever" and let go of all efforts to control the outcome. Continue to breathe softly as you imagine yourself becoming porous. Just allow the feelings to flow through.

The feelings that emerge may initially spread through your body or intensify as you breathe into them. A process begins to happen that may take you through a whole progression of feelings, thoughts, memories and sensations. Go with the experience. Initially it may seem a little scary until you become familiar with the healing processes of your own body-mind. After some time you will get use to it as the experience begins to comfort and strengthen you. The feelings will gradually soften and you will gradually come to experience warmth, comfort and calm. This can take anywhere from a few minutes or in some instances it may take hours. Just continue to breathe into the feelings.

Working with this practice makes it easier for you to come to a place of resolution. You will find yourself getting over things, adapting to circumstances and bouncing back more quickly. Doorways will open inside of you. The generative healing powers of your body-mind will flow within you initiating new cycles of growth and creativity. You may feel sensations of warmth as currents of life force flow through your body ultimately resulting in a sense peace and comfort. This is nourishment that will sustain you and keep you going.
